- Mardi Gras:
Glittering
parades, airborne trinkets,
and a month-long celebration
of spring – New
Orleans' annual Mardi
Gras celebration is the
city's most famous month-long
party, and often its most
misunderstood. For the
three weeks preceding
Mardi Gras Day –
a movable feast linked
to the Catholic Church's
holiday of Ash Wednesday
– the city throws
a spirited bash that reflects
the city's proud history
and joie de vivre. And
if you think that the
party is limited to Bourbon
Street and the "Girls
Gone Wild" gang,
you're mistaken. The Grand
Victorian sits mere steps
away from the busy Uptown
parade route, the oak-lined
St. Charles Avenue. During
the full Carnival season,
guests can walk out to
the grassy "neutral
ground" and watch
the rolling spectacle
(daily during the weekends
and after dark on weekdays).
It's a chance to see Mardi
Gras the way locals do,
while the the crush of
the French Quarter a short
cab ride away, if that's
your pleasure.

- New Orleans Jazz &
Heritage Festival:
Every
year, thousands of Jazzfest
pilgrims and locals alike
descend on the New Orleans
Fairgrounds for two weekends
of great live music, local
art and life-changing
"festival food."
It's the best the city
has to offer. The Grand
Victorian provides the
perfect resting place
for the Jazzfest faithful.
The renovated Victorian
provides a great getaway
from the hgh-heat boogying
pace of the Fest, while
providing easy access
to the Uptown clubs –
specifically the renowned
Tipatina's – and
the French Quarter is,
as always, a short streetcar
ride away. Jazzfest is
traditionally the last
weekend of April and the
first weekend of May.
