New Year’s Eve in New Orleans: Fun, Fireworks and Fleur-de-Lis

new years at our new orleans bed and breakfast

Fleur de Tree

Get your count down on at Jackson Square, near our New Orleans bed and breakfast, for live music with Eric Lindell and the Honey Island Swamp Band.  Just before midnight, from the top of Jax Brewery, the 8-foot-tall fleur-de-lis drops down to switch on the 2014 light.

After the drop, you will want to keep your eyes on the sky for a spectacular 10-minute firework display, consistently ranked one of the best in the nation. You’ll find a club in the French Quarter or along Frenchman Street that will be perfect for your ongoing celebration of the new year.  You can also reserve a spot on one of our historic paddlewheel riverboats to watch the fireworks and enjoy some music and food.

If the French Quarter scene isn’t for you, check out local listings to find your favorite band or discover a new love at some of New Orlean’s great music venues such as Tipitina’s, the Howlin’ Wolf, or the new Civic Theatre on Freret Street near our New Orleans Bed and Breakfast.

The Grand Victorian wishes you a safe and happy new year.  We look forward to seeing you during your travels in 2014.

Bring in the New Year in the Big Easy

Maybe the ball doesn’t drop down in the Big Easy, but New Year’s in New Orleans is a unique event everyone should experience. Whether walking the streets of the French Quarter or dining in New Orleans’ finest restaurants, there is sure to be an event that suits your needs.

Jackson Square hosts the biggest party in the city with thousands on New Orleans’ finest. The city has it’s own traditions as “Baby Bacchus” drops from the top of Jax Brewery at midnight. The origin of peacefully dropping the infant of Saint John the Baptist stems from the strong influence of French Catholics that built the Crescent City. The drop is followed by a spectacular fireworks show over the Mississippi River.

For a calmer night, make reservations at one of New Orleans’ restaurants. If you want to stay within the Garden District, the award-winning Commander’s Palace is just a block away from the Grand Victorian. Or you can head downtown on the Streetcar and dine among the New Year’s chaos. Many restaurants offer specials and packages to make the night extraordinary.

Discover New Orleans’ one-of-a-kind music scene on Frenchmen Street. There are dozens of bars and clubs that showcase unforgettable local artists, especially jazz. Bring in 2011 with Galactic, a funk/rock band, at Tipitina’s or Better Than Ezra, a rock band, at the House of Blues. You are sure to find a band that you can dance the night away while listening to live music.

Start off your New Year right by celebrating with your loved ones in New Orleans. It is the perfect place to drink and dine before your resolutions begin. And if this year’s resolution is to enjoy yourself, then it’s the first step in your quest to have the time of your life!
